One child at a time
Every programme we fund is measured the same way: whether a child who was out of school is learning today, and still learning next year.
Open Horizons is an independent humanitarian foundation registered in Luxembourg. We were founded on a single conviction: that education is the most powerful, most portable, most enduring gift we can give a child.
Established in 2018, Open Horizons was created to serve two groups of children whose futures depend on the same thing, access to education, but whose paths could not look more different: refugee children arriving in Europe, and children living in underserved communities across Africa.
We operate as a bridge, mobilising European resources, expertise, and empathy toward on-the-ground programs delivered with, never for, local partners.

A classroom is the first place a child learns that the future is something they are allowed to want.
Filmed with our partners across Europe and Africa, this short documentary shows what the foundation looks like on an ordinary school day: the teachers, the volunteers and the children whose futures we are funding.

Every programme we fund is measured the same way: whether a child who was out of school is learning today, and still learning next year.

Alongside literacy and numeracy, our partner classrooms make space for art, play and expression, the parts of childhood that displacement interrupts first.

Local volunteers run the clubs, the reading circles and the after-school hours that turn enrolment into progress.
A small, senior team in Luxembourg working alongside country coordinators in every place we operate.
We center the dignity of every child and every family we work with.
Independently audited each year and reported publicly.
We build alongside local communities, never around them.
We measure success in decades, not campaigns.
